Upper-Manya MP donate exercise books to pupils

Member of Parliament for Upper-Manya Krobo, Mr Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, has donated 3,000 exercise books to schools in the Upper Manya Krobo District to help improve educational standards in the area.

The beneficiary schools include Nasurudin Islamic Primary, Anglican Schools and Roman Catholic Primary all at Asesewa, Odometa D/A and Trinity Academy at Ajomua, a private school.

The donation of the exercise books followed publications about challenges facing the education sector in the district by the Ghana News Agency Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Projects team and engagements of the team with the MP on challenges facing education in his constituency.

The GNA Media Auditing and Tacking of Development Project is sponsored by Star-Ghana and the project aimed at promoting participatory democracy in districts.

As part of the project, GNA has been engaging stakeholders including district assemblies, opinion and community leaders such as Dademanstemei and the MP on some issues raised by the people in the district.

The project focuses on education, health and agriculture and their contribution to the development of the district.

Presenting the exercise books to the schools, the MP said he received several reports of school children in the area not having exercise books, compelling teachers to send pupils home.

He said the provision of the exercise books was part of plans to improve performance in the area and expressed the hope that it would spread to the entire constituency and improve performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Already the MP has instituted free and compulsory vacation classes for all final year students billed to write the BECE.
