Director General of PIPS visits Madina Command

Commissioner of Police (COP) Madam Joanah Osei-Poku, Director General of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS), on Friday paid a maiden visit to the Madina Police Divisional Command to interact with the personnel.

The Madina Divisional Command constitutes the Kwabenya, Adenta and Madina stations.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Osei-Poku said the visit was to discuss issues concerning how her outfit could collaborate with the Command to enhance the work of the Police Service.

She said the PIPS was mandated to see to the professionalism of Ghana Police Service, inspect and monitor activities at duty points to ensure discipline, effective service delivery, and sanity in the Police Service.

Madam Osei-Poku appealed to the general public to report any mis-behaviour or misconduct of the police to the PIPS for redress.

She expressed regret that the PIPS had no permanent accommodation in the regions and appealed to the public and corporate bodies to assist in constructing offices to enhance work in the regions as the Government alone could not handle it.

She said the Accra PIPS Office is located at Asylum Down behind the Trust Towers and that it catered for the southern zone while that of Kumasi catered for the northern zone.

Madam Osei-Poku asked those aggrieved about the conduct of police personnel to report to the PIPS adding; “if anyone had a case at the police station and was not treated fairly, the complainant should report to PIPS for a redress or amicable settlement.”

She said policemen/women who were found culpable would be reprimanded to serve as a deterrent.

She said once a while she met with the Inspector General of Police to discuss some of the serious cases raised against the police and conducted checks to ascertain whether the various cells were overcrowded and those on bail were released.

The Director General of PIPS warned that any police station that contravened the Standing Orders would face rigorous sanctions.

The outfit, which began over 30 years ago, operated under various names until it was finally christened the PIPS.

Madam Osei-Poku later inspected a 12-bedroom flat under construction for the Madina Divisional Command behind the charge-office.

Chief Superintendent Nantogmah Aggrey Yakubu, Madina Divisional Police Commander, said the building received seed money from the Police Administration with assistance from corporate institutions within the area.
