GNFS personnel asked to work with passion

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Kwabena Taah Korang, out-going Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), at the weekend advised personnel not to undermine the service, but exercise their constitutional duties with zeal and passion.

He emphasized that thousands of people are currently chasing to get a job in the service, but are not getting the opportunity, and, therefore, asked personnel to abide by the rules and regulations of the service.

ACFO Korang gave the advice when he addressed some personnel of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Command at a pullout ceremony the command organized for him in Sunyani.

Recruited into the service as a cadet officer in 1992, ACFO Korang who is going on retirement held various leadership positions such as Deputy Fire Safety Director, Regional Fire Commander for Tema and Ho, as well as Accra Metropolitan Fire Commander and Greater Accra Regional Safety Officer.

ACFO Korang reiterated the importance for personnel of the service to exhibit a high sense of professionalism, respect senior officers and the elderly who could not have the opportunity to acquire tertiary education, and work hard to protect the corporate image of the service.

He noted that the field of fire fighting is restricted to professionals, and advised the younger personnel to upgrade themselves so that they could use strategic leadership and science knowledge in fire fighting and other duties.

ACFO Kwame Larbi-Apraku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Fire Commander, said the command recognized and appreciated the efforts of ACFO Korang in fire fighting, and was optimistic that though he was due for retirement, he would continue to use his experience to support the service.

He observed that though fire fighting was a restricted job for professionals, the general public also had a role to play.
