Woman drowns in Kwasu river

The Bechem Police in the Tano South District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, on Wednesday retrieved the body of a 35-year old woman from the Kwasu River at Brosankro, a farming town in the area.

According to residents of the area the deceased, Ama Aninwaah, an epileptic, had a seizure when she was fetching water from the Kwasu River and fell into it in the process.

The deceased and her husband, Opanyin Ofori, went to the farm that fateful day when they ran out of water so the deceased went to fetch some from Kwasu River when the incident occurred.

Opanyin Ofori waited for his wife to return from the riverside and when she failed to turn up, he went to look for her, but did not find her. He therefore reported the matter to the Bechem Police.

DSP Emmanuel Baah, the Bechem District Police command, who confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times, said his outfit, upon receiving the news, sent a team to the scene but was unsuccessful in their search.

He said that it was yesterday that the body of the deceased was found in the river. He said it had been deposited at the Bechem Hospital morgue for autopsy.
