Ga East Municipal makes progress

John Kwao Sackey, the Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, has said in spite of the challenges associated with the 2012 general elections, the Assembly worked hard to ensure peaceful electioneering in the Municipality.

He thanked the security services, the Electoral Commission, assembly members and the general public and expressed the hope that the lessons learnt would serve as useful inputs in future elections.

Mr Sackey was presenting the report of the Executive Committee to the General Assembly at a meeting at Abokobi near Accra on Thursday.

He said the assembly over the year undertook some projects, prepared and approved some Land Use Plans to guide the development in the municipality.

Mr Sackey said the assembly continued the construction works at Taifa Burkina and Haatso markets and demarcated sites for Ga East General Hospital and Taifa Burkina Police station.

He said the assembly completed the Kwabenya Library and Computer Center projects and a semi detached staff accommodation for its officers.

He said various roads projects which include Atomic-Taifa-Abom junction road, Atomic-Musuku-Ashongman Estate and Haatso-Ecomog roads are progressing, whiles Abokobi-Teiman-Oyarifa road tarring is almost complete.

Mr Sackey said the executive committee also made some recommendations to put in place a sanitation inspection team at all public schools, task the Municipal Town and Country Planning Department to identify land for the acquisition for a municipal cemetery.

He said Ga East has no public cemetery following the separation of the La-Nkwantanag Municipal from Ga East.

He said the first phase of the Dome Market Project was completed and handed over to traders, adding that the assembly also reviewed the Municipal Profile, terminated contracts of non-performing contractors and trained some women in male dominated trades.

He said it also organised training programmes for revenue staff on how to generate and maximize revenue; whilst collaborating with advertising agencies to erect standardized sign post at junctions and intersection for public rentals.
