MOFA directs NFCO to mop up excess maize supply

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) says it will provide the needed support to National Food Buffer Stock Company (NFCO) to mop up all excess maize in the system to avert post harvest losses.

MOFA has subsequently directed that farmers who are holding onto stocks of maize to contact NFCO office via telephone numbers 0269983468 or 0269983462 to arrange for the purchase.

A statement signed by Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Food and Agriculture said on Thursday that, the attention of the Ministry had been drawn to the fact that farmers in some parts of the country are holding abundant stocks of maize but could not find ready market to sell.

MOFA has therefore directed out grower promoters to mop up for NAFCO to lift the consignments.

The statement assured farmers that government is taking immediate steps necessary to equip NAFCO to deal with the issue promptly.
