Oman FM suffering 'illegal' interference

Oman 107.1 FM in Accra, a Madina-based radio station owned by politician Kennedy Agyapong, has complained to authorities about 'illegal' interference with its frequency, meaning listeners in many areas cannot tune in.

"It appears to us that there is a consistent and sustained effort by some faceless individuals to collapse Oman Fm and some of its affiliate through this illegal act," said Stella Wilson-Agyapong in a statement to the National Media Commission and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association.

"We have conducted several investigations and our conclusion is that, some special equipment has been installed at certain strategic locations that are being used to jam Oman FM transmission."

Management of the station says they have experienced signal interference for the third time in less than four months with the latest occurrence persisting for more than ten days. They say it is impossible for the station to be heard in parts of Spintex Road, East Legon, Airport Residential Area, Ridge, Cantonments, Labone, Asylum Down, Circle, Abeka-Lapaz, Dansoman, Dzorwulu, Teshie, Kaneshie and many other places.

Oman FM is a local radio station covering music, news and entertainment.
