Let’s all play our roles well to promote education – Lady Julia

The wife of the Asantehene, Lady Julia Osei-Tutu, has appealed to all stakeholders in education to accept to play their roles to make the school environment more academic-friendly.

She said all should share in the burden of ensuring that the right conditions existed for effective teaching and learning to help make learning enjoyable for children and check truancy among them.

Lady Julia, who is also the Chief Executive of the Serwa Ampem AIDS Foundation for Children, an NGO dedicated to the welfare of HIV/AIDS-orphaned and infected children and the vulnerable, was speaking at a durbar held by school children at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality.

She was there as part of a visit to see at first hand some of the challenges facing the school and determine what support she could organize to help make things better.

She urged parents to put premium on the education of their children by making sure that they were not only enrolled but retained in school.

Lady Julia gave high marks to the teachers for the good job they were doing in the face of challenges and appealed to them to continue with the hard work.

The Omanhene of Mim, Okofrobuor Yaw Agyei II, said the Traditional Council had set up a committee to examine effective ways of helping to improve on the quality of education in the area.

Dr. Thomas Agyarko-Poku, Executive Director of the Otumfuo Education Fund, presented learning materials including text books and stationery to 20 schools in the municipality.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Yeboah Yeboori, who received the gifts said they were grateful to the Fund for the assistance.**
