Tamale celebrates World Water Day

A tank to harvest rain water with a capacity of 25,000 liters has been presented to management of the Yong Dakpemyili Roman Catholic School by the Integrated Action for Community Development (INTAGRAD), an NGO, as part of activities to mark World Water Day.

It also presented soaps and plastic basins as part of a water and sanitation management project aimed at ensuring proper environmental management in the community.

Mr Amin Yahaya, Programme Director INTAGRAD handed over the facility to the management of the school at a ceremony to mark the day that is celebrated worldwide, to raise awareness and encourage political support for addressing global water crisis.

He said, formerly the children resorted to the use of dam water, which is unhygienic, hence the support to create a healthy living and safe teaching and learning environment for the pupils.

Mr Yahaya said, about 34 communities in Nanumba North and Nanumba South districts would also benefit from the rain water harvesting tank facility.

Zangbalun-Bomahe Naa, Chief Alhassan Issahaku Amadu, the Regional Population Officer, said the nation’s quest to ensuring potable water for all could be realized through effective partnership.

He advised parents to be proactive and be interested in the education of their children to compliments government efforts of ensuring free universal basic education.**
