ICOUR advised to focus on land irrigation

Navrongo, May 31, GNA - Officials of Tong Yang Moolsang (TYM) Limited, a Korean manufacturing company specializing in agriculture, irrigation and agricultural mechanisation, has appealed to the management of ICOUR to focus on irrigating the land and allow private entrepreneurs to come up to support in the milling and marketing of farm produce.

The company was in the Upper East Region to assess how it could transfer technology to complement the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority in agriculture to boost food production and hydro electric power in the region. The team was also to look at the possibility of digging more dams for irrigation.

Mr. Steve Mawuenyega, Executive Chairman, Contrast Incorporated, said there was the need to increase agricultural mechanization in the region, especially combine harvesters.

Mr. Sibil Kim, Executive Director of TYM and leader of the Korean delegation, said TYM would support the region. Areas the team visited included the Fumbisi rice valley and the Tono irrigation dam in Navrongo.

Mr. Mark Woyongo Upper East Regional Minister, who accompanied the team called for quick response from the company.
