NR Minister Appeals To Abudus To Go Back To Negotiating Table

Outgoing Northern regional minister,
Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina has apparently delivered his last address at the
first general meeting of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs with a
passionate appeal to the Abudu Royals in Dagbon to reconsider their decision of
pulling out of the sittings of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led mediation committee
handling the age-long protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.
Mr. Nayina said the Abudu Royals
decision to withdraw from the Otumfuo mediation committee sittings at Manhyia
could derail the progress made so far by all stakeholders mediating the Dagbon
chieftaincy dispute.
The outgoing Northern regional minister
further impressed upon the traditional authorities to use their leadership
positions to de-escalate and resolve all pending land and chieftaincy issues
that have inundated the area over the years.
Mr. Nayina thereby suggested the need
to use reconciliatory mechanisms and practices such as purification rights to
resolve all manner of conflicts in their areas of jurisdiction.
He commended the elders and king
makers of the Gonjaland traditional area for the peaceful conduct of selecting
Kusawgu-Wura Tuntunba Sulemana Amanfo Jakpa as worthy successor to the late
King of Gonjaland Yagbon-Wura Bawa Doshie I.
Acting President of the Northern region
house of chiefs, Nayiri Naa Bohigu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga thanked government
for introducing the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority concept and
urged Ghana’s Legislators to give it a legal backing by speedily passing the
bill into law.
The Nayiri also praised government
for rolling out the Youth in Agriculture programme and said the intervention
will go a long way to reduce the rate of youth unemployment in the country.
The Nayiri who is King of the
Mamprusi traditional area praised residence of Nalerigu for assisting the
security agencies to arrest the alleged murderer of the late Mr. Moses Alando
Banaba, the murdered pharmacist of the Nalerigu Baptist Mission.
He however urged the security
agencies to keep Ghanaians out of suspense by making public the outcome of
investigations regarding the unfortunate incident of alleged rape assault on
some innocent young ladies at Nalerigu by some military personnel on local
peace keeping mission in the area.
