Ghana Telecom University students form a research club

Accra, 5, GNA - The success in technology driven economy is effective innovation through extensive research backed by continuous funding by the State and judicious application of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in various fields. Mr Adotey Brown, Chairman of Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC) made the observation when he inaugurated a research club, Telecom Research Network (TELENET) of the university at the weekend. He pointed out that Ghanaians have the capabilities of coming out with ICT led research product which would be able to propel the economy. Mr Brown said developing countries like Malaysia and Singapore had their independence with Ghana at the same time from British rule but they have been able to turn their economies around through technological advancement.

"These countries are not much endowed with natural resources but have been able to put together their dreams, ideas and plans and translated them into a final product and therefore students in technology need to take advantage of technology driven opportunities in a Ghanaian lens to grow our country," he added. Nii Ampem Darko Sackey, Director in-Charge of Operations of the Club said it was time, as students in technology, to think aloud and bring new innovations into the system to redirect the technological needs of the country. He noted that the onus now falls on technological students to find solution to the technical ills that have plagued the country and Africa as whole in their developmental process. Nii Darko Sackey expressed appreciation to Dr. Prosper Ashilevi, a Lecturer at the University for his advice and the role he played in forming the club.
