Birim South District Assembly confirms DCE

Akyem-Swedru, April 03, GNA - The newly created Birim South District Assembly on Thursday confirmed the President's nominee, Mr Samuel Antwi Berko as the District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr Berko, the Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service (GES) had 100 percent confirmation as all the 30 Assembly-members voted for him. Prior to the voting exercise, some of the assembly members who were absent during the assembly's inauguration last month were sworn into office by His Lordship Justice Appau.

The DCE elect, in his acceptance speech, thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to establish a good working relationship with all the stakeholders to ensure the development of the district.

Mr Kwadwo Affram Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minister, reminded the Assembly of the President's prerogative to nominate the DCE and called for their support to signify their appreciation to the President. He said the smooth conduct of the election in confirming the nominee was a good sign of support to the government and the development of the district on the whole.

Mr Felix Owusu-Adjepong, Minister of Energy designate and Member of Parliament for Swedru, said the forth coming election would be a judgment on President Kufuor and his government's performance. He called on the people to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party to enhance the cordial relations between them and the government.
