Parents advised to give quality education to children

Kumasi, Aug 1, GNA - Mrs Rosemond Appiah Owusu-Gyampoh, Social Development Officer of the Department of Social Welfare in Kumasi, has urged parents and guardians to give quality education to their children to enable them play positive roles in the socio-economic development of the country.

She said children, as future leaders of the country, should be given brought up well to enable them become responsible citizens. Mrs Owusu-Gyampoh was speaking at the fourth graduation of 13 kindergarten children of the 31st December Women's Movement Early Childhood Development Centre at Adum in the Kumasi metropolis on Monday. She commended the good work of the teachers and staff of the centre to ensure the nurturing of children in their formative years to help them gain admission to basic schools.

Mr Charles Opoku, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the centre, said the association had fenced the school at the cost of 25 million cedis.

The PTA has plans to provide a telephone, a computer and a television set for the centre at the cost of eight million cedis. Mrs Irene Blankson, the Headteacher of the centre, said the centre, established in 1988 with a population of 20 pupils, now has 150 children.

She said the school lacked teaching materials, recreational grounds and a vehicle and appealed to the Department of Social Welfare to assist.

Mrs Mary Jantuah, Ashanti Regional Director of the 31st December Women's Movement Early Childhood Development Centres, said the movement has 14 Early Childhood Development Centres in the Ashanti Region.
