Dispel bad image of Bawku - MCE urges

Bawku (U/E), April 19, GNA - The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah, has called for concerted efforts by residents to dispel the bad image associated with the municipality to attract quality personnel for accelerated development. He said residents had learnt from bitter conflicts and should bury their differences in order to build bridges of peace.

Mr. Gumah made the call at the inauguration of a multi-ethnic grouping known as 'Onuado Kuo' at Bawku.

He said the perception of Bawku as a violence area was unacceptable and entreated residents to be worthy ambassadors to help redeem its image.

The MCE appealed to residents not to take the current peace for granted, but rather do all their best to sustain it. He lauded the formation of the Union, members of which cut across diverse ethnic groupings and implored them to be transparent in all their dealings.

He said such unions were needed to foster unity for the speedy integration of all tribes for a stable environment. Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, stressed the need for unity and peaceful co-existence among all tribes to develop the nation, adding that it was the only way to improve the lives of people. He advised union members not to see their tribes as superior to others, but rather as equals for social harmony through the sharing of ideas and knowledge.

He reminded them on the need to be law-abiding and to respect others' cultures and customs. 19 April 06
