Zendo queenmothers asked to act decisively on HIV/AIDS

Kpeve, (V/R), Dec. 7, GNA- Mama Manle II, president of the Zendo Queenmothers Council, has asked members of the group to act decisively to stem the effects of HIV/AIDS on women and their communities in general.

She said the pain, which the disease has brought to many homes and communities should not be taken lightly. Zendo is made up of Klikor, Kpeve, Klefe, Tsibu and Tsorxor communities in South-Dayi District of the Volta Region. Mama Manle, who is also Queenmother of Klikor, was speaking at a one-day workshop on HIV/AIDS, organized by the Council for its members at Kpeve in the South-Dayi District.

She said the workshop was meant to jolt the members into action against the disease in their various communities. Mama Manle urged her colleagues to educate the people on the causes and consequences of HIV/AIDS in their various communities and to be role models for their people.

Mr Livinus Acquah-Harrison, official of the New Seed International, a non-governmental organization (NGO) on HIV/AIDS, said reports indicated that disease was prevalent in the Zendo communities and it required drastic measures to reverse the trend. He said women and girls were more vulnerable to the disease and urged people with the disease to report to the hospital adding that the NGO was ready to provide assist such persons.
