Wurapong community records high rate of teenage pregnancy

The absence of social amenities has triggered high rate of teenage pregnancy in Wurapong, a farming Community in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region.

Most young girls between the ages of 12 - 18 have either given birth(s), pregnant or carrying babies without husbands.

The situation has led to high rate of school dropouts in the area as the victims are reluctant to continue their education after delivery.


A 25 – year – old girl who has given birth to five children says, she was impregnated at the age of 13 years and could no longer continue her education.

A health official at Wurapong CHPs Center, Mrs. Regina Addobea Ossom says steps are being taken to address the canker.

She mentioned community outreach education programs on the use of condom and other family planning methods are ogainised periodically to educate community members.

An aspiring Assembly Member for Wurapong Electoral Area, Bismark Amgbor, lamented over the lack social amenities in the area, an therefore, urged government and philanthropists to come to their aide.
