Wa East Assembly gets DWAP projects

Funsi (U/W), May 6, GNA - The Wa East District Assembly will receive 235,000.00 Ghana cedis to execute development projects under the CIDA funded District Wide Assistance Programme (DWAP) this year. The money would be used to construct a classroom block at Kulkpong, a kindergarten at Guonoa, two CHPS compounds at Duu and Manwe and the rehabilitation of four school blocks at Yaru, Guo, Bayiri and Loggu. Mr Isaac Alitu, the District Chief Executive, said this at the ordinary meeting of the assembly at Funsi and that the projects would start by the end of this month or early June.

He said the district, which is one of the guinea worm endemic districts in the country, would benefit from 10 boreholes while PRONET North, an NGO, which is drilling eight boreholes in the district has promised an additional five to be drilled this year.

Out of a target of 30,000 Ghana cedis internally generated revenue set last year, the assembly collected 30,388.96 Ghana cedis but its expenditure for the period amounted to 31,094.62 Ghana cedis. To address this high expenditure, he said the assembly has decided to double last year's target by earmarking 62,934.00 Ghana cedis as its internally generated revenue for this year.

Mr Joseph Bolibie, the Presiding Member, called for unity and good working relationship between the members and staff of the assembly to enable it carries out its programmes in a peaceful atmosphere. 06 May 08
