Ashanti Regional Police Command says victims of the February clashes at Old Tafo between traditional authorities and Zongo youth have been duly compensated.

This follows an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) adopted by both parties with Manhyia mediating between the factions.

ASP Yussif Tanko Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who disclosed this on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, added that the police administration is awaiting reports on the outcome of the ADR before it can proceed with further actions.

“We arrested some persons but some powers intervened and we had to allow for them to use ADR in resolving the situation. I am aware some compensation has been paid to the victims”, he disclosed.

According to him, his outfit has not received any report that negotiations have broken down insisting that the police will proceed to prosecute the suspects if Manhyia fails to broker a truce between the two groups.

“We are waiting for reports from the negotiations to determine whether it has been successful or otherwise”, he added.

He also denied claims that the police have lost control over the situation in the area betraying the trust of residents; insisting that the ADR intervention is the reason they relaxed.

“That it is however not justifications we are not up to the task of proper policing”, he explained.
