Vice-President Amissah-Arthur donates to Debibi community

The Vice- President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has donated 200 bags of cement and 20 packets of roofing sheets to Debibi community in the Tain District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

He also gave the Traditional Authority an amount of GHC5, 000.00.

The rationale is to enable victims of a recent rain disaster that collapsed buildings and ripped some houses of their roofs in the community to repair, rebuild and re-roof their houses to make life comfortable for them.

Mr. Kofi Ofori, Presidential Aide to the Vice-President who presented the items on behalf of the Vice president told newsmen at Debibi that, the donation was a form of a personal gratitude by Mr. Amissah- Arthur to the people of the community for their unflinching support to him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the Election 2012.

Mr. Ofori explained that the Vice-President appreciated their effort so much when on his way through the town to another community for campaign; the residents defied security resistance, blocked the road and insisted that unless he stopped and address them, they would not allow him to pass.

He said as an expression of appreciation the Vice-President on Friday October 24, 2014 sent him a message of re-assurance to the chiefs and people of the community that the campaign promise would be fulfilled, saying “I came to ask the opinion leaders of their priority needs which included tarring of the road linking the town and Sampa and upgrading a local health post into a clinic”.

Mr. Ofori said while expecting the elders to present the Vice-President with a list of social amenities and facilities like potable water and electricity, the community had earlier on October 16, 2014 suffered a devastating rain disaster.

The Vice-Presidential Aide stated that, Mr. Amissah- Arthur on hearing the report immediately donated GHC25, 000.00 to procure the cement and the roofing sheets to be distributed to the affected victims for rebuilding and renovation of their houses.

Later at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Ofori stressed that Veep’s gratitude for their massive support to him and the NDC is yet to come but “these items and the cash is only a show of concern by the Vice-President for the plight of the rain disaster victims”.

Mr. David Kwame Gyau, Tain District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, said the disaster totally collapsed five houses, ripped the roofs of 104 houses whilst 593 people were affected.

Mr. Gyau disclosed following the last visit by Mr. Ofori, the 16-kilometre Debibi-Sampa not-car worthy road had been graded under the directive of the Vice-President.

Mr. Opoku Atuahene, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of NDC who accompanied Mr. Ofori, assured the people that Government was committed to fulfill its part of the social contract with them.

He therefore appealed to them to maintain their support for President John Dramani Mahama to deliver the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’.

Mr. John Kwaku Anto Abebrese, Tain Constituency Chair of NDC, advised the people to bury their differences and unite for the speedy development of the community.

Ogyeaman Ampem Kwabena Nangor the Second, Chief of the town expressed appreciation, saying “We are so surprised and elated for the Vice-President’s gesture because we never expected such a quick response and assistance to the community after the disaster”.

Ogyeaman Nangor therefore reaffirmed their support to the NDC Government, particularly in the election 2016.
