VRA to fund water project in North Tongu

Mafi Avakpedome (V/R), Sept 26, GNA- The North-Tongu District Assembly is to liase with the Volta River Authority (VRA) for it to fund part of the water supply to needy areas in the district.

Mr Nicholas Ahiadorme, the District Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the launch of the second phase of the Regional Mosquito Control Project on Thursday at Mafi-Avakpedome near Adidome in the Volta Region.

He said under the programme, water will be tapped from the Volta Lake to all towns along the lake.

The occasion marked the launch of the 2003 Regional Cleanliness Competition for communities in the area.

Mr Ahiadorme announced that under the Agricultural Sector Investment Programme all dams in the district would be rehabilitated.

He regretted that while cases of guinea worm has dropped, there has been reported cases of typhoid, diarrhoea and malaria in the area. In a speech read for him, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister stressed the government's commitment to improving sanitation in the country.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa commended DANIDA, the Volta Regional Community Water and Sanitation Agency (VRCWSA) and the Volta Star Radio for their support for the various forms of sanitation improvement in the region.
