VRA Resettlement Trust Fund builds Nurses’ quarters for Botoku

Mr. Henry Ford Kamel, the Volta Regional Minister, has inaugurated a five-unit nurses’ quarters at Botoku in the North Dayi District with a call on the people to regard the facility as a national asset and maintain it.

“This beautiful facility must stand the test of time. You the people must guard it as you guard your wives and husbands,” he said.

Mr. Kamel said that was the only way the community could retain nurses to improve healthcare service delivery especially maternal health in the area.

He also appealed to the District Assembly to factor the maintenance of the facility into its budget.

The facility, estimated at GH?68,800, was funded by the Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund.

It is expected to help improve quality health delivery in the area and enhance basic clinical care and disease prevention services.

Mr. Kamel commended the Board of VRA Resettlement Trust Fund for the support and urged people in the community to keep faith with the government.

“This facility is one of the fulfilled promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, so you must keep faith with the government and retain it in power for more of these projects,” he said.

Dr. George Nyarku, Kpandu Municipal Director of Health Services, said lack of residential accommodation for critical staff was the major cause for which health professionals refuse postings to communities in the District.

He commended government for the accommodation and appealed for basic theatre equipment for Kpandu Health Centre, which is about to be upgraded to a polyclinic status.

Madam Akua Dansua, MP for North Dayi who hails from the community, also expressed gratitude to the Board of VRA Resettlement Trust Fund and appealed to the people to support the government for more projects.

She appealed to Botoku citizens living abroad to invest in the development of the community and “to desist from pushing everything to the MP, DCE and the government.”

Madam Dansua assured the people of Tsoxor that the road passing through Botoku would get to their end to open up the whole area for rapid development.

Engineer Andrew T. Barfour, VRA Resettlement Trust Fund Board Chairman, said the Fund would construct a six unit teachers quarters’ at Tsoxor next year.**
