Upper West observes Constitution Week

Wa, May 12, GNA - Alhaji Issahaque Salia, the Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to the security agencies, especially the Ghana Police Service, to always let the public know how security personnel who beak the law are punished. Alhaji Salia said this in a speech read for him at the national constitution week celebration in Wa on Tuesday He said it was incumbent on the security agencies to demonstrate to the public that people who volunteered information were not exposed.

Alhaji Salia appealed to the security agencies to let their code of ethics to guide them in the discharge of their duties. He expressed the hope that they would continue to be independent and unbiased so that democracy with regards to choice of government would not depend on where the allegiance of security lies.

"Ghana's fourth Republic has come this far partly due to the professionalism exhibited by our security agencies and their commitment to upholding the rule of law. I am positive that with this zeal, there would never be a Fifth Republic", Alhaji Salia said. He said though there had been some successes chalked there were still some 93feeder roads that if examined, worked on and asphalted would make the path of Ghana safer and better."

Alhaji Salia appealed to the citizenry to have some understanding of the constitution to be able to share in the vision of Ghana and know what was expected of them as well as their rights and benefits associated with such a dispensation. Alhaji Salia commended the National Commission for Civic Education for being instrumental in sustaining the democratic dispensation through civic education.
