Upper West Education Director's office leaks badly

Wa, Jan. 12, GNA - About five empty buckets are usually

used to trap rain water due to leakages in the office of the Upper

West Regional Director of Education when ever it rains. This is done to prevent water from flooding the office and

possibly causing harm to vital documents.

Mr. Fabian Belieb, the outgoing Regional Director of

Education, said this when Alhaji Issahaku Salia, the Upper West

Regional Minister, undertook a tour of Ministries, Departments and

Government Agencies in Wa to find out their challenges. He therefore appealed to the Regional Minister to see to the

renovation of the block to make it attractive to the public and

comfortable for the workers. Mr Belieb said most of the top officials were on retirement and

that Ghana Education Service was working towards filling those

vacant positions. On the issue of teachers' accommodation, Mr. Belieb appealed

to the District Assemblies to put up houses in their districts for

teachers to rent. Mr. Ismael Marda, the Regional Science and Mathematics

Coordinator, also appealed to the District Assemblies to take

interest in sponsoring Science and Mathematics programmes, best

teacher award ceremonies and mock examinations. Alhaji Salia said successive governments had not been able to

provide adequate teachers' accommodation because of logistical

constraints.

He appealed to the officers to be patient with government while

it worked towards eliminating all the under tree schools before

tackling the issue of accommodation for teachers. He said the government would do its best to address the

situation. On the renovation of the education block, the Regional Minister

assured the workers that he would take up the issue with his Chief

Director to have the block renovated.
