Upgrade your skills - Electricians urged

The Ashanti East Regional Engineer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Alex Boamah, has encouraged members of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) to avail themselves to programmes run by the company’s training school.

He said they need to enhance their expertise to cope with the technological advances and challenges in the industry.

He complained about the lack of the requisite skills and technical know-how for efficient job delivery by many of the electricians and said this was to blame for the shoddy electrical wiring that often tended to trigger fire disasters.

Mr. Boamah said this when addressing a meeting held by the regional branch of the Association in Kumasi on Wednesday.

He expressed concern about the growing number of unqualified electrical contractors in the system, noting that, many were operating without being certified.

He counseled landlords and building contractors to engage the services of only qualified and certified electricians to forestall the incidence of fire outbreaks due to faulty electrical wiring.

He also spoke of the need for the Association to do more to persuade and bring all electricians under a single umbrella to restore sanity.

Mr. Joseph Walker, the GECA National President, appealed to landlords to undertake electrical auditing of their houses, to identify faulty lines to be fixed.**
