Unemployed youth registered in the Ejura-Sekyedumase district

Ejura (Ash), Oct 1, GNA - A total of 761 unemployed young people have registered with the government's Youth Employment Programme in the Ejura-Sekyedumase district of Ashanti.

Dr Joshua Ayarkwa, the District Chief Executive, told the GNA in an interview at Ejura on Sunday that they would be assisted to go into crops and vegetable agriculture with some of them being engaged as auxiliary health workers assistants, rural educational assistants, community policing and waste and sanitation management corps. The programme would soon start in the district, the DCE said, adding that the government was not leaving any stone unturned towards achieving its manifesto and campaign promises to create employment for young people.

He spoke about a sheep breeding station at Bonyon saying the facility was producing quality offspring, as well as providing educational methods to farmers, students and non-governmental organisations on improved production. He said 461 people had so far been trained over the past four years.

The DCE stressed the need for the rehabilitation of damaged structures of the station to enable it increase its stock population to meet the hopes and aspirations of the sheep farmers. Dr Ayarkwa announced that the district assembly has purchased 10 farm tractors to boost agricultural productivity in the district. "The assembly has taken delivery of additional three tractors of which two have been presented to deserving farmers. The remaining one has been reserved by the assembly to be used for refuse collection and other activities", he said.

Payment for the tractors will be on yearly instalments basis, he added.
