UG SRC Launches 91UG Community Excellence Awards'

Accra, March 9, GNA- The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana (UG) has launched a scheme to award members of the university community who have distinguished themselves in various endeavours.

The scheme dubbed, 93UG Community Excellence Awards" is the SRC's initiative to honour students and faculty members in a bid to encourage and empower them to give off their best wherever they find themselves.

Mr. Benjamin Okyere Ankrah, President of the Graduate Students Association of the UG, launching the awards urged the organisers of the awards to ensure that the entire selection process is transparent in order to make the awards meaningful.

He stated that a lot of people had worked very hard for society, the university community and themselves and deserved to be appreciated so 93we must not wait till they are dead before we honour them". Mr. Robert Akoto Amoafo, Head of Communications of the UG excellence awards, said the objectives of the awards was to acknowledge outstanding personalities in the university community, to create an opportunity for corporate Ghana to interact with them and to develop a relationship between employers and the university. The awards would cover 15 categories including Outstanding Sports Personality Of The Year, most talented in creative arts; student entrepreneur of the year, most impactful event of the year, student organisation of the year, outstanding student activist of the year and hall of the year.

The rest are; outstanding student leader of the year, most promising student of the year, best student innovation of the year, best university team, most proactive international student, outstanding department of the year, student personality of the year and distinguished lecturer of the year. There would also be five honorary awards given to some senior staff and distinguished members of the Ghanaian community.
