Two prisoners have been killed in an accident which occurred on the Kenyasi-Ntotroso road in the Asutifi North District of the Brong Ahafo region.

Two others also sustained various injuries.

The unfortunate incident happened when the driver of the Kia truck on which the prisoners were traveling lost control which led the vehicle to somersault.

The prisoners, believed to be inmates of the Kenyasi Prisons Camp, were transporting teak from a farm when the incident happened.

One of the survivors was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region while another prisoner who lost one of his ears was treated and discharged at the St. Elizabeth Hospital at Hwediem in the Asutifi.

An eyewitness account indicated that the prisoners were returning from a farm near Ntotroso where they had gone to load timber onto a truck.

According to the witness, on their return, the inmates were asked to sit on the logs packed onto a Kia truck with registration number AS 291-10.

The truck’s steering wheel allegedly developed faulty which led to the accident.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck is still receiving treatment at the hospital, while the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Saint Elizabeth Hospital morgue.

Brong Ahafo Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prisons Service, ASP Ziniel Vincent, confirming the story to a local radio station, added that one of the prisoners died on the spot while the other died upon arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi

He added that investigations were still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
