Two pedestrians killed in freak accident

Two pedestrians were killed and a third badly injured when they were run over by a KIA truck at Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District.

The deceased were identified as Robert Kwabena Owusu-Ansah, 32, and Kwaku Noah, 30.

The injured, Stephen Manu, 25, is receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The vehicle was being test-driven by an auto-mechanic to determine if a mechanical fault for which it had been sent to his garage had been properly fixed when the brakes was said to have malfunctioned.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Fosu, the Nyinahin Commander, confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and said the vehicle also crashed into a cosmetic shop and caused considerable damage to the structure.

The auto-mechanic, whose name was only given as Mark alias “Strongman”, fled after the incident and the police have mounted a search for him.

DSP Fosu said, Mark had driven the truck to Adosu, a suburb of Nyinahin and was descending a hill when the brakes reportedly failed.

The vehicle knocked down the three as they walked on the shoulders of the road oblivious of the danger, killing two of them instantly.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Toase mortuary.**
