Two paramount chiefs get Jubilee Registers

Bongo (U/E), Aug. 5, GNA - Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, a legal practitioner and a publisher on Monday presented two copies of a manual titled "Ghana Jubilee Register" to two paramount chiefs in the Upper East Region. They are the Paramount Chief of Paga Traditional Area, Pe Charles Awampaga, and the Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Bonaba Lemyaarum Baba Salifu Atamale.

The manual, a detailed reference document for the country, captures areas such as the arms of government including the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, as well as the security agencies, international organizations, diplomatic corps, traditional authorities and prominent sons and daughters of Ghana serving with world bodies.

In an interview after the presentation, Mr Greenstreet told the GNA that the 812 page work, forms part of an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and New Economic Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) project. He said a similar project endorsed by the two agencies to document and link up organizations, individuals and institutions in the sub-region, to foster the speedy realization of effective integration process of ECOWAS and NEPAD, known as the "Regional Register" is at its conclusion stage and preparatory works to publish and launch it would soon be announced. Mr Greenstreet who is also the General Secretary to the Convention People's Party (CPP) said copies of the "Jubilee Register" would be distributed to all paramount chiefs nationwide through their Regional House of Chiefs.

The Paramount Chief of Bongo thanked Mr Greenstreet for the document and said it was a vital material which every chief in the country needed because it stated the various traditional jurisdictions, culture and other significant areas. He commended the publisher for giving recognition to traditional authority and said the contributions of chiefs is important to the social and political development of the country, adding that, as authorities they have a responsibility to serve and to educate their people on issues pertaining in their area, which the document could help achieve. The Paga Pio commended Mr Greenstreet for the gift and encouraged him not to relent at achieving the best for the country and called on other publishers to document other relevant areas regarding chieftaincy in the country.
