Two killed and 16 others injured in road accident

Nkawie, (Ash), Nov 3, GNA - Two people were killed and 16 others suffered serious injuries when a Mercedes Benz passenger bus on which they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a cargo truck.

The accident occurred at the outskirts of Nkawie in the early hours of Wednesday.

One of the deceased was identified as Akwasi Adu, 70, from Mpatuom.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Minta Afari, Nkawie Divisional Commander of the Motor, Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the two vehicles were heading towards opposite directions.

The bus was travelling from Mpatuom to Kumasi while the truck was on its way to Bibiani.

He said the cargo truck ran into the lane of the bus resulting in the crash.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at KATH mortuary.
