Two die in a blast at Prestea

Prestea (W/R), March 4, GNA - Two Blasters of New Century Mine (NCM) were killed on Thursday while blasting rocks in an underground mine in Prestea.

The blasting formed part of exploration exercise to assess the viability of the mine. NCM, a mining company based at Prestea, is under care and maintenance.

Mr Neil Stevenson, Acting General Manager of NCM, told Ghana News Agency that the bodies had been deposited at the Government Hospital Mortuary at Tarkwa.

Mr Stevenson said the Mining Inspectorate had been informed and investigations would soon begin to find out the cause of the accident. Meanwhile a hospital source gave the names of the dead as Ibrahim Sankara and John Quaye Ankrah.
