Two Nkoranza district citizens commended for supporting education

Nkwabeng, (B/A), Aug. 26, GNA - Mr. Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, has commended two citizens of the district for their contribution towards the uplifting of education in the area by sponsoring brilliant but needy and students. The two - Mr George Donkor, a Tema-based businessman and a native of Dromankuma and Dr Kwabena Nsiah-Gyabaa, Principal of Sunyani Polytechnic who hails from Busunya - have given out about 20 million cedis each to support the students.

Addressing the students union of Nkwabeng and the community at an open-day ceremony, the district director called on other citizens of the area to emulate the two philanthropists in the promotion of education in the district.

Mr Agyeman-Badu urged parents to respect and support teachers to enable them to redouble their efforts to improve the standard of education.

He urged the students union to lead exemplary life in order to command respect from the people as role models.

Mr Kofi Gyan, President of the union announced that the union would mount a vigorous campaign to sensitise students about the causes and effects of HIV/AIDS and preventive measures.

Mr Paul Appau, Assembly Member for Nkwabeng-Anafo, advised parents to invest in their children's education, saying it is the only legacy they can bequeath to them.
