Togbui Sri calls for unity in Anlo State

Sogakope, V/R -- THE Regent of the Awoamefia Stool, Togbui Sri III, has called on the chiefs and elders of the Anlo Traditional Area to bury their differences and work towards the installation of an Awoamefia.

He said since peace and unity are vital in enhancing progress, there is the need for them to join hands and bring their rich experience to bear on the installation and subsequent outdooring of a substantive Awoamefia.

Togbui Sri made the call at a meeting with the senior divisional chiefs and elders of Anlo at Sogakope at the weekend.

He expressed serious concern about pockets of chieftaincy disputes in the area and said "such situations are inimical to the development of the area in particular and the nation as a whole.

Togbui Sri appealed to the chiefs to help withdraw all such cases at the courts for amicable settlement, adding that "there is no need for us to continue to wash our dirty garments in public.?

?It is incumbent on us as peace initiators to ensure that immediate peace and understanding prevail in Anlo. As soon as this is done we will proceed towards the immediate installation of our Great King for peace, stability and development we all cherish,? he said.

He also asked the chiefs to refrain from matters that are likely to reverse the area's clock of progress.

Togbui Sri, who is known in private life as Francis Nyonyo Agboada, pledged to foster unity and understanding which have hitherto been lacking in the Adzovia clan which is adversely affecting the Awoamefia stool as well as the Anlo State.

He announced that a research team will be put in place to document all historical facts about various stools for future reference and expressed the hope that the move will put to rest all chieftaincy disputes in the Anlo State.

He also proposed the restructuring of the Anlo Traditional Council to include new committees such as research and archives committees, conflict resolution committee, tourism committee, education and health committee and installation and outdooring of the Awoamefia committee.

The Chief of Klikor Traditional Area, Togbui Addo VIII, pledged to support the regent in his bid to transform the chieftaincy institution in the area to "a more formidable movement that will chart a course that will bring into one fold again as of yore, sons and daughters of Anlo.?

"At the moment our dear Anlo State is on the verge of disintegration. We are living in a sort of chieftaincy leadership quagmire and therefore welcome your appearance on the scene," he said.

He commended the regent for his initiative and pledged to "sieve these intentions and promote them.
