Three people killed by over-speeding vehicles in the Eastern Region

Koforidua, Sept 21, GNA- Three persons including a six year old girl, lost their lives at the weekend when they were knocked down by speeding vehicles at in the Eastern Region.

Police Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah, the Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Police service who briefed Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the little girl was identified as Okyerebea Keteku whiles the two are yet to be identified. He said around 9 am on Saturday, the driver of a BMW saloon car, GT387T with one person on board from Akosombo towards Atimpoku, on reaching Afabeng, a community along the road, knocked down two pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction who sustained serious injuries.

He said they were taken to the Volta River Authority (VRA) Hospital but died shortly on arrival and the bodies were deposited at the same hospital's mortuary whiles the driver has been granted bail. On the same day around 6 am, Thomas Gagbui was driving Hyundai Grace bus GW5229Z with passengers on board from Madina to Kpando and on reaching Fintey township, knocked down the little girl who was crossing from the offside.

She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the VRA hospital but also died shortly on arrival and the body was deposited at the morgue. Meanwhile, the vehicle has been impounded and the driver in police custody to assist in investigations.
