Three Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa schools score zero percent

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Dec. 15, GNA - None of candidates presented by three Junior High Schools in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region obtained between aggregates 6 and 36 to qualify for admission into Senior High School in the 2006/2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Domson, District Chief Executive (DCE), who announced this at the 3rd Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Breman Asikuma, however, did not name the schools. He said the District Education Oversight Committee would meet in January 2008 to fashion out steps or assistance that would help to improve upon the forthcoming examinations in the District. The DCE said the District, which placed eighth out of 13 districts in the Central Region presented 1,684 candidates made up of 973 boys and 711 girls from 62 schools, but 7 of the candidates failed to turn up for the examinations.

He said 7 candidates obtained aggregate 6, representing 1 percent, 131 had between aggregates 07-15, 582 scored between aggregates 16-30 while 964 had aggregates 31+.

Mr. Domson said a total of 820 candidates representing 48.9 per cent passed, while 864 candidates, representing 51.1 failed. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Nana Kweku Twum II said as part of its capacity building programme, the Assembly should support at least three assembly members to attend the 59th Annual New Year School, slated between January 3 and 10, 2008 at the University of Ghana, Legon. Nana Twum said infrastructure development was also crucial in the effort to implement priority intervention and that roads in the District should be rehabilitated.

He mentioned the Asikuma-Anhwiam road as one of those to be given priority because it linked the District to the Assin District and the Ashanti Region.
