Thieves kill Watchman

Tanokrom (W/R), GNA- Mr. Issa Busanga, a 64-year-old night watchman of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi, was on Monday found dead on the premises of the church. Police sources said Busanga was strangulated and had multiple bruises on his wrists, neck and feet.

The sources said the thieves might have killed the watchman when they realized that they could not get what they wanted.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tanokrom, Mrs. Marian Bosomtwi and Mr. Archibold Bentsil, both society stewards of the church, said they suspected that the thieves committed the act in an attempt to get away with church funds that were kept there.

They said the Church dedicated a new organ on Sunday and realized 30 million cedis in an appeal for funds, and that might have been the reason for the thieves to visit the church premises. They said the thieves made away with 50,000 cedis and a video deck.

Rev. Daniel D. Brace, Superintendent Minister of the Effiakuma Circuit of the Church, expressed disgust at the incident but appealed to church members and neighbours who might have seen or heard any noise in the night to inform the Police.

Meanwhile the corpse has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital for autopsy while Police investigations continue.
