The Tema Metropolitan Assembly has been ranked as the best district in Ghana while the Gomoa West district was ranked as the worst in the 2015 District League Table.

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly which took the 20 position in 2014 topped the latest edition with a score of 76.6.

The Ghana District League Table is compiled by the United Nations Children fund (UNICEF) and the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) and uses indicators from six key sectors including health, education, sanitation, water, governance and security to record a single score for each district.

All the 216 districts are then ranked from the district in 1st place down to that in 216th.

La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal placed second in the report launched Wednesday with a score of 76.4 while Atwima Nwabiagya, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai and Awutu Senya placed third, fourth and fifth.

Districts from the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions feature prominently in the top half of the table, however, no district from the Northern part of Ghana is found in the top 20 districts.

UNICEF’s country representative, Susan Ngongi said the report seeks to improve transparency and accountability.

“It’s not just where the districts are it’s also about why they are there and how we can help them to improve their positions,” Ngongi said.
