Techiman residents complain of increasing criminal activities

Techiman, Aug 20, GNA- Residents in the Techiman municipality, which boasts of one of the biggest markets in West Africa, have complained over the increasing criminal activities in the municipality. Robbery and theft cases are reported daily to the police at Techiman, which was affecting the market, flocked by traders and other business people from neighbouring countries on a daily basis. Apart from daily reports of criminal cases to the police, isolated incidents of crime, which is not reported, are rife.

A secretary at the Ghana Health Service at Techiman recently had her bag and mobile phone snatched by some unknown persons, whilst a midwife at the Holy Family Hospital was attacked in her house and her money and phones taken away after being brutalized.

The Health Administration office in Techiman was also recently robbed of more than GH21,600 (16 million cedis), whilst the health centre at Aworowa, near Techiman also lost some money in a similar attack.

Madam Theresa Ankrah, midwife in charge of the centre told the Ghana News Agency that the attack was the ninth in recent times. The health workers recently staged a demonstration to express their displeasure about the situation.
