Teachers threaten to boycott 6th March celebrations

Atikpui (V/R), Feb. 23, GNA- Teachers of Atikpui Roman Catholic School in the Ho Municipality, have threatened to boycott 6th March activities marking the celebration of Ghana's 50th anniversary if electric power was not restored to the Atikpui township before the event.

They said the current blackout being experienced by residents of the town, started in the middle of last year due to the burning down of two low tension poles during a bushfire.

The teachers said the situation was having adverse effect on academic work of students and the socio-economic life of the people. They expressed these sentiments when Captain (Rtd) George Nfordjo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, led executives of the " Always Praising the Father" Ministries; a Tema-based Christian, non-governmental organization to distribute gifts to pupils of the school at Atikpui.

The teachers said the school had called off evening classes for Junior Secondary School three students due to power outage and therefore, called on the Government to solve the problem in time "before things get worse".

The MP promised to contact the Electricity Company of Ghana to restore the power to the town to ensure smooth academic work and socio-economic activities.
