Teachers tasked to expose parents

Wa, May 18, GNA- Mr. Cletus Soyere Paaga, Upper West Regional Director of Education on Thursday warned parents and guardians against withdrawing their children for farming activities. He has subsequently tasked the teachers to live up to their responsibilities and expose parents who violated the warning from his outfit.

These were contained in a statement signed by the Regional Director and copied to the Media, all District Directors of Education, Religious bodies chiefs and elders of all communities in the Region. The statement said once the rains were setting in and farming activities were beginning, there was the tendency for parents to once again remove their children to help them on their farms until the farming activities were over.

"I am therefore appealing to all parents/guardians to allow their wards to remain in the schools throughout the season". He appealed to teachers to also remain in the schools to teach effectively in order not to give the parents the opportunity to withdraw their children.

Most parents in the rural areas of the Upper west Region withdraw their children from school to either help them in farming activities or engage them in cattle rearing at the expense of their education during the rainy season and send them back after education. The situation had not only retarded their education, but had also made the work of teachers very difficult under the circumstance hence the circulation of the statement.
