Power supply to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation offices in Tarkwa in the Western region has been cut due to nonpayment of electricity bills.

The Regional Public Relations Officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Philip Osei Bonsu, told Starr News’ Western regional correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Gyan that the state broadcaster owes close to Gh¢ 300,000.

Bonsu insisted all legitimate means to get GBC to settle its debt have been unsuccessful hence the need to cut power to its mast.

Gyan said the disconnection means people of Tarkwa and its environs will not enjoy both radio and television programmes from GBC.

“We have also given the University of Mines and Technology to also settle it debt of Gh¢1,138,405 by the end of October or face disconnection,” Bonsu told Gyan.

Meanwhile, Gold Refinery Hall, a hall of residence for level 100 students for Umat has also been disconnected.
