Talensi-Nabdam confirms DCE

Tongo (UER), April 18, GNA - The Talensi-Nabdam District at the weekend voted unanimously to confirm the President's nominee, Mrs. Vivian Anafo as the District Chief Executive (DCE). The Electoral Commission conducted the exercise with 35 assembly members voting yes to accept the President's nominee. Mrs. Anafo, in her acceptance speech thanked the President Professor John Ataa Mills, for nominating her and the assembly members for accepting her.

She said the unanimous acceptance and confidence the assembly reposed in her was an indication that all members were prepared to put away their political differences and work in unity. She said the support of the Chiefs and people of the area gave her the courage to take up the challenge and pledged to work hard to reduce poverty in the area, improve on education, health, Agriculture and sanitation.

She assured the women in the area of credit facilities to undertake income generating activities.

Mrs. Anafo told the assembly members that she would involve them in all decisions and that her office would be open to all. She was sworn into office by Mr. Mark Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister. Mr Woyongo advised the assembly to continue working in unity and not to let ethnic or political differences divide them. He urged them to work to reduce poverty in the area, saying that, the government had put in place measures like the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), and the Sheanut Programme to help the people in their agricultural activities. Mr John Tia, Member of Parliament for the Talensi constituency and Mr Moses Asaga, Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency both in the district, advised the DCE to work for all irrespective of their ethnic background and asked the assembly members not to allow petty squabbles to divide them.
