Takoradi commemorates Remembrance Day

A solemn service to commemorate the 69th Remembrance Day was on Tuesday held at the Cenotaph in Takoradi.

A contingent of the Western Regional Branch of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) formed the parade.

The service was officiated by Reverend Father Benjamin Effah, Reverend Lieutenant David Benedict Quayson, Imam Lieutenant Mohammed Alhassan and Reverend Ernest Ofori Debrah.

Prayers were offered for the President, the prosperity of the nation and the country’s service personnel who died on the line of duty as well as fallen heroes.

Chief Petty Officer Augustine Osei Bonsu, Regional Chairman of VAG read the Biyon Verses.

Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Deputy Regional Minister, laid the first wreath on behalf of the government and the people of the country while Commodore Godson Zowonoo, Two Garrison Commander and the Flag Officer commanding the Western Naval Command, laid the second on behalf of the Armed Forces.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Alex Quainoo, Regional Police Commander, laid the third wreath on behalf of the security service and Nana Kwesi Agyeman, IX, Vice President of the Regional House of Chiefs, laid the fourth on behalf of the Chiefs and People of the region.

Chief Petty Officer Bonsu also laid a wreath on behalf of ex-servicemen and Ex-lance Corporal Kwamina Ennin laid the last wreath on behalf of expatriates.
