TVs and Decks to consolidate PSI on distance education

Hohoe, May 03, GNA- Some schools in the Hohoe District have been presented with 29-inch coloured television sets and DVD decks as part of the nationwide consolidation of the President's Special Initiative on Distance Education at Hohoe.

Thirty-three TV sets and decks worth 200 million cedis were distributed to schools in the district with GETFund providing the amount.

The presentation also coincided with the sod cutting for a 500 million-cedi four-unit teachers' accommodation for the Gbi-Central Basic School Complex.

Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive who presented the items, said the gesture was to bridge the gap between rural and urban schools to create equal opportunities irrespective of geographical location.

He said the government was pursuing relevant reforms and interventions to improve on the standard of education and also equip all schools to enable them compete and meet global challenges. Mr Amewu announced that the Hohoe District would benefit from the model school project next academic year.

He tasked the district directorate of education to be more vigilant to stem any act of sabotage as reported in some districts for the maximum success of the capitation grant and schools' feeding programme. Mr Albert M.K. Agra, Presiding Member of Hohoe District Assembly, said St Francis and St Theresa's training colleges were also included in the distribution list to enable the teacher trainees to monitor the progress of the distance education programme.

Mr John Hobenu, Hohoe District Director of Education, said this goodwill from the government should gird the loins of teachers for greater responsibility and hard work in order to achieve the national set goals.

Mr Dennis M Agbenuvor, Principal of St Francis Training College, thanked the government for the gifts and pledged that the purpose for which the donations were made would not be compromised.

Some of the beneficiary schools are St Mary's Seminary, Lolobi, Leklebi Senior Secondary, Hohoe E.P Secondary School, Have Technical, Akpafu Secondary/Technical and Wli-Todzi JSS.
