TMA Health Unit declares war on butchers

Tema, July 15, GNA - The Environmental Health Unit

of the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) has warned butchers

operating in unauthorized places in the municipality to cease or

face the law. Mr Peter Amuzu, Tema Municipal Health Officer, said

in an interview on Friday that of late many butchers have been

operating at places not designated for such business. He said officials from his outfit normally inspect the

animals slaughtered at designated places at the abattoir, the

former GIHOC offices and Tulaku in Ashaiman to certify their

wholesomeness. Mr Amuzu said the unit is issuing fresh licences to the

butchers to check such illegal practices and called on the leaders

to ensure that the exercise worked to perfection by exposing the

culprits. On Chop bar operators, he said the awareness

created through constant education had encouraged them to

voluntarily call at the office to register their business and be

issued with license. "The Unit registers 50 operators a week against about 10

previously."
