Student kills friend over notebook

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) - The Suame Police in Kumasi have arrested and placed in custody, Kwadwo Adomako, 16, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) graduate for allegedly stabbing his best friend, also a JSS graduate of the same age, to death.

A controversy over a notebook resulted in the unfortunate incident, which took place at Bremang-Nkontiwima, a surburb of Kumasi, last Thursday. A police source named the deceased as Azuma Mohammed. According to the source, the two who were very intimate lived with the parents in the same vicinity at Bremang-Nkontiwima.

Azuma was said to have borrowed a notebook from Adomako before the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but failed to return it. When all efforts to recover the book failed, Adomako swore heaven and earth to retrieve it.

Armed with knife, the suspect at about 8pm, headed straight to Azuma’s house and ordered him to surrender the book or face the consequences. An ensuing exchange of words generated into a fight and before the tenants could intervene, Adomako had stabbed the deceased several times on the head and abdomen, sending him crashing to the ground.

Bleeding profusely from the stab wounds, Azuma was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but died soon on arrival. Obviously sensing danger, Adomako fled home but was flushed out of his hide-out by the police following a tip-off. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy
