Storm rips off roofs of schools, hospital structures

Ho, May 1, GNA - A rainstorm last Thursday ripped off the roofs of the RC Primary school building, canteen and some structures of the district hospital at Nkwanta in the Volta Region.

The hospital structures include the offices of the District Director of Health, laboratory and some nurses' quarters. Twenty other individual houses in some suburbs of the town were also affected.

Mr. Bernard Mensah, Nkwanta District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on telephone that some quick repair works needed to be done on the school block else pupils will be without classrooms when school reopens next week.

He said he had been out with the District Chief Executive (DCE) to console victims while they waited for relief items. Mr Mensah said effect of the storm might be due to poor work since the building was put up recently. He called for more stringent processes of job inspection to avoid unwarranted additional cost on repairs to fairly new public buildings and projects.

Mr Mensah said the most affected individual was Joseph Kwadzo Anakwah whose 15-room house had the roofs completely ripped.
