Speeding minibus kills two motor riders

Penyi, Sept 7, GNA - A minibus travelling at high speed from Aflao towards Dzodze on Tuesday crashed into two motorbikes, killing the riders at Penyi in the Ketu-North District.

A third person, a pillion rider on one of the bikes, is in critical condition at the Saint Anthony's Hospital at Dzodze.

Police are yet to get the identities of the victims who were said to be Togolese on errand to buy fish across the frontier in Ghana.

Eye witnesses told the Ghana News Agency that the bus veered into the lane of the two motorbikes coming from the opposite direction.

Youth of the Penyi, angered by the accident, happening after the burial on Sunday of a rider killed in a similar way, barricaded the road with burning tyres.

This action prevented the flow of traffic for more than an hour till the police arrived.

The incensed youth threatened to replace the illegal speed rump in the town which they claimed police forced them to remove.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Akwesi Asafo-Agyei said Abdulai Seidu, the driver of the minibus, was in police custody and would be put before court for reckless driving.
