Some teachers in Shama-Ahanta East join strike

Takoradi, Oct 20, GNA - Teachers in some schools in the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolis on Friday began a strike action in demand for better condition of service, Mrs Theresa Naana Dadzie, Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), said. Addressing a press conference at Fijai near Takoradi, she said GNAT was not behind the strike that has been instigated by some teachers calling themselves "Concerned Teachers Association".

Mrs Dadzie appealed to the striking teachers to resume work. "We are appealing to all our members at both the basic and the second cycle institutions to go about their normal teaching". "There is no need for some teachers hiding under the umbrella of Concerned Teachers Association to incite teachers in the metropolis to embark on strike".

"We are appealing to head teachers and teachers who have been misinformed to look critically at the realities on the ground and go back to the classroom to teach", Mrs Dadzie said.
